Last Friday morning I went walking in the snow. Forget New York with its art galleries and nightlife and sushi on every corner. Forget London with its famous buzz and best retail in the world and theatres. Forget the world.
St. Cergue on the Swiss side of the Jura foothills perched half-way between Geneva and Lausanne in French speaking Switzerland just a short 20 minute drive away from my desk is my New York and London. For now.
Perhaps they’ll throw your ashes from it.
Elna? Is that your real name?
Not a pleasant thought, but not a rare one either.
I assisted at an ashes scattering at La Givrine many years ago. A windy day and we all got covered in the poor bloke. Back at the house, a friend gave an emotional oration which bought a tear to my eye. I pulled out my pocket hanky and was covered in Harry again.
Ouch! Sorry Elna I’ve just re-read my comment it was meant as a nice thought.
Indeed my real name is Elna, and I have requested my ashes spread in la belle Suisse.

December 3, 2008 @ 3:57 pmAhhhhh– I love St. Cergue. There is a stop on the way there that I always stop and view the area below. My kids called it ‘mom’s mountain’.
